Mysuru (Mysore)

Mysore, officially renamed as Mysuru, is the third most populous and the third largest city in the state of Karnataka. It is located at the foothills of Chamundi Hills. It is about 146 km (91 mi) southwest of the state capital Bangalore. Mysore served as the capital city of the Kingdom of Wodeyars for nearly six centuries, from 1399 until 1947. The Kingdom was ruled by the Wodeyar Dynasty, with a brief period of interregnum in the 1860s and 70s when Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan were in power.
